ABOUT TWIN BEACH PLAYERS
The Twin Beach Players (TBP), Incorporated (incoporated 27 August 1998) is a nonprofit
community theater group based in Chesapeake Beach and North Beach Maryland. The
organization was organized exclusively for educational and literary purposes as
specified in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, including, for such
purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt
organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The TBP will
promote the performing arts and culture for the residents of the Twin Beach
communities. The TBP plans to provide the community with three theatrical
productions per season, and would appreciate the continuing support of the
community.
Today, the TBP remains a viable and creative community theatre,
featuring the talents of volunteer actors, directors, designers and crew, drawn
from the Twin Beach communities. The membership has grown with the business and
community support and from those who support and love community theater.
We continue to rehearse and perform in local halls, restaurants,
community centers, and even under a tent on local piece of property, wherever
space is available. TBP's dream is to find a permanent home. Today, the TBPs
desire to continue producing quality live theater in twin beach communities.
With the relentless commitment of the TBP Board of Directors, staff and
volunteers who make the TBP a part of the beach communities' cultural future, we
are looking for assistance from the community so that we can call a place our
own home.
Twin Beach Players' History
In the fall of 1997 two women got together, a
local restaurateur and a woman with many years of theatre experience to see if
the could present a Christmas holiday production. With local restaurateur Anne
Remy as Producer and Chesapeake Beach resident Joyce Halley as Director, and
stage assistance by Chesapeake Beach resident Janine Naus the first Twin Beach
Players (TBP) production "A Christmas Carol" was presented in December 1997.
The next thing they knew, several other productions were planned and
presented to the community. Joyce Halley directed "On The Night Of January 16th,
and "Dracula: The Musical?" At the same time Joyce, Ann and Janine along with
Joyce's husband Ray Halley and local actor Luke Woods became the first TBP Board
of Directors who then initiated the process of building the TBP into a nonprofit
organization.
In August 1998, the TBP became incorporated as a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization. Then in December 1998, TBP presented the second showing
of "A Christmas Carol", directed by Joyce.
In the spring of 1999, another Chesapeake
Beach resident stepped up to direct "Cinderella Waltz". In the fall of 1999, the
TBP Board of Directors decided to change the organization into membership
organization and begin the process of annual Board of Director
elections.
Then with the third running of what appears to be an annual
tradition of the TBP, North Beach resident Marc Goodman stepped up to direct "A
Christmas Carol". As a result of the third running of "A Christmas Carol", the
TBP of Directors made a commitment to be more actively involved with the
children of the North Beach and Chesapeake Beach communities. The current Board
of Directors and membership have hosted several social events for the children
in the community. We are happy to report the
Twin Beach Players Youth
Troupe
formed in the spring of 2008.
